A Tribute to Youngie Chewele
Poem by Conel Namatumbo
Humble in spirit, yet strong in his way,
A heart so young, yet wise and true,
He walked with grace, no need for fame,
And in our hearts, he etched his name
“I just came to say hie Conel”,
With a warm smile and twinkling eye, he would softly say,
A voice that made us feel valued at work,
No rank too high, no grade too small,
He treated each one as equal to all
He saw no rank, no walls, no divides,
In every heart, he took a stride.
From Umoyo offices to humble halls,
His warmth and kindness touched us all.
Selfless in deeds, supportive in tone,
He made us feel we were never alone.
An ear that listened, a heart that knew,
How to uplift, encourage, renew.
Objective and fair, his wisdom profound,
A steady anchor when storms came around.
Yet his visits were simple, a cheerful “Hi,”
A reminder of care and the reason why.
Now he rests, his journey complete,
A legacy etched in every heartbeat.
We honor his life, his light, his way,
And carry his goodness into each day.
Young was his name, and fitting it seems,
For he carried the hope of the youth
To show us all he truly cared.
I just came to say bye Young,
May you rest in power, Young
He was a compassionate boss
I remember him when we lost the encryption devices for vending and I had to leave urgently for South Africa to have them fixed. While most people were on our necks, he came in with his soft voice and coincidentally, we met at Chileka International Airport as he was also traveling with the CEO and Board Chairman.
He abandoned the VIP lounge to be with me in the ordinary lounge. He said comforting words: “Isabel, I had to make sure you are boarding the flight so that we fix the problem. Don’t worry about the pressure from everywhere; it will pass.”
What a compassionate boss he was…he will forever be missed.—Isabel Mangulenje
A true role model
Young was truly exceptional. He embodied the qualities of an ideal individual. His selflessness, kindness, and generosity inspired us all. He was a true role model; an example of a perfect human being. MHSRIP.—Godfrey Kujingo
He was humble
Youngie Chewele was a humble person we ever knew in ESCOM. His passing has affected many souls. May his selfless soul rest in eternal peace. He taught us true leadership.—Ben Bvalani
