The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited’s participation in this year’s Labour Day celebrations in Balaka today May 1 2025, held under the theme “Democracy that Works for Decent Work for All,” underscores the Corporation’s commitment to safety, strong brand visibility, and the promotion of workers’ rights.
Speaking when His Excellency President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera visited the ESCOM pavilion, ESCOM Acting Chief Public Relations Officer Peter Kanjere highlighted the Corporation’s policies aimed at fostering gender equality and workplace safety.
“We have Gender and Social Inclusion, Anti-Sexual Harassment, and Human Resources Recruitment policies to encourage fair recruitment and promote women’s participation in engineering,” he said.
Kanjere added that ESCOM has so far sponsored 120 female students in engineering fields across the country, as part of its drive to bridge the gender gap in technical roles.
“We also encourage our staff to wear personal protective equipment to ensure their safety while working on power lines,” he emphasized.
