The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) temporary worker is in the cooler with two others in Thyolo for the alleged vandalism of copper wire valued at K5.3 million.

Thyolo police spokesperson, Sergeant Rabecca Kashoti, has identified the three  as Zindi Mbawa, aged 30, Chikumbutso Malemba, 24, and Wile Binos, 24.

“On April 12, 2024, the company’s Lanse Corpol received a tip-off from a well-wisher that three men putting on ESCOM attire were at Chipendo Trading Centre and were digging the bottom of the transformer,” she said.

Kashoti added that after they finalised the digging, the trio boarded a Toyota Sienta along with the copper wire, heading towards Thyolo boma, but the ESCOM team apprehended them around Chibwana village.
