ESCOM Ladies celebrate International Day of the Girl Child in style

A group of ESCOM Limited ladies celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) in style on Friday, October 11, 2024.

They thronged Mbayani 1 Primary School in Blantyre City to motivate 250 Standard 8 female learners to remain steadfast in their pursuit of education.

The corporation’s female employees, clad in Mbayani school uniform, took turns in delivering motivational talks to the girls.  They shared their experiences on how growing up, they endured and navigated the rough and slippery terrains of school peer pressure, bad company and bad habits before realising their dreams.

The group comprised Tawonga Nembere, Chisomo Choko, Maryse Chithando, Betty Chithando, Betty Chunga, Jackina Khwiliro, Betty Chunga, Bubu Mkandawire, Gertrude Chapweteka, Bubu Mkandawire, Thandi Tambala, Rhosa Madise, Irene Tanga, Isabel Mangulenje, Beauty Kanjo, Judith Mtambo, Elube Chienda, Chikondi Priscilla Mkoko and Cecilia Tikhale Nakoma. Nembere is the Executive Committee chairperson of this initiative.

The visit to Mbayani was part of ESCOM employees’ initiative to join the international community in commemorating the Day under the global theme: Girls’ Vision for the Future.

The theme aligns with ESCOM Social and Gender Inclusion Policy which advocates for equal opportunities for employment, doing business with the corporation and non-discrimination at the workplace.
