The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi ESCOM on Tuesday officially handed over seven houses to households affected by construction activities related to the Mozambique-Malawi Interconnection Project (MOMA) in Mwanza district.
The handover ceremony took place at Kagonamwake Village, under the jurisdiction of Traditional Authority Ntchache. In total, ESCOM has constructed 47 houses as part of the Resettlement Action Plan for MOMA. The project aims to enable Malawi to access an initial 50 megawatts of electricity from Mozambique. The MOMA project is scheduled to be commissioned later this year, enhancing grid stability and ensuring a reliable and stable electricity supply.
The provision of these houses demonstrates ESCOM’s commitment to mitigating the impact of infrastructure development on local communities and ensuring that affected households are adequately resettled.
