Amended law bites: 3 jailed for 10 years each for transformer vandalism, theft

Vandalism of an ESCOM transformer and theft of its underground cables have earned three men 10 years imprisonment each in Mulanje, courtesy of Electricity (Amendment) Act 2024. The Mulanje Senior Resident Magistrates’ Court passed the sentence on Gift M’mangisa, Geoffrey Patrick and Afiki Charles on 3rd September 2024. Regional Prosecution Officer-South-East, Bartumeyo Adzaonenji, said Senior Resident Magistrate Glory Mwatiwamba jailed the men after they were convicted for the offences committed in Chiradzulu District in August 2024. ESCOM builds 29 decent houses for Neno and Mwanza communities

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited has built 29 modern houses for some Mwanza and Neno communities displaced by the Mozambique-Malawi (MOMA) 400kv Power Transmission Project. ESCOM Limited Chief Executive Officer, Mr Kamkwamba Kumwenda, said the Malawi Government is funding the construction of the three-bedroom houses and other associated infrastructure such as health and school facilities to the tune of over K2.5 billion. Two men jailed for 30 months for possessing stolen ESCOM conductors

Two men have been sentenced to two-and-a-half-years imprisonment in Lilongwe following their conviction for possessing stolen electricity conductors at Kasiya in the district. The State Vice-President, Right Honourable, Dr. Michael Usi, paid a surprise visit to ESCOM Limited Head Office at Umoyo House in Blantyre on Friday, 26th July 2024 at around 10:00am to appreciate the Corporation’s operations in service delivery. The deadline for the Malawi Electricity Access Project (MEAP) has been extended from June 2024 to June 2025. Two suspects arrested for theft and vandalism of Escom assets

Police at Kasiya in Lilongwe Rural have arrested two men suspected of stealing and vandalising Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) Limited assets in the district. Kasiya Police Station spokesperson, Constable Mercy Chitonde, said the law enforcers arrested Rodwell Chisamba and Emmanuel Gabriel on Friday, June 28 2024 for vandalising Escom conductors at Ndalama Village.
