Man Dies while Tampering with ESCOM Limited’s Equipment

A 27-year-old man identified as Geoffrey Matewere has died after being electrocuted while tampering with Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited property in Mangochi District.  Monkey Bay Police spokesperson, Alice Sichali, said the incident happened on January 15 2024 at Nankhwali Parish in Traditional Authority (T/A) Nankumba in the district.  She said on this particular day, eye witnesses saw the deceased sneaking into the premises of the parish reportedly with the intention to steal.  “Matewere interfered with the ESCOM’s main switch which was outside the parish,
