ESCOM to Host Africa’s Energy Giants in Malawi

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited will host the 2026 Power Institute for East and Southern Africa (PIESA) Conference from 22 to 24 February 2026 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

Held under the theme “Transforming Electricity Energy Systems for a Sustainable Future with Focus on Africa,” the conference will bring together utility executives, engineers, regulators, technology providers and energy experts from across East and Southern Africa to share knowledge and develop practical solutions to regional power challenges.

ESCOM Chief Public Relations and Communications Officer, Pilirani Phiri, says hosting PIESA 2026 is a strategic move aimed at strengthening Malawi’s electricity system through regional cooperation, skills transfer and adoption of modern technical standards.

“The conference will feature keynote presentations, technical sessions on grid modernisation, panel discussions on regional energy trade, exhibitions and high-level networking,” he said.

Phiri said by hosting the conference locally, ESCOM will provide Malawian engineers and professionals with direct access to continental expertise at a lower cost, while positioning Malawi as a leader in regional energy dialogue.

As Malawi advances towards the Malawi 2063 development vision, the conference will serve as a working laboratory to help shape resilient, sustainable and reliable energy systems that can power the country’s growth for decades to come.
