ESCOM shines at Malawi International Trade Fair

A panel of experts in commerce has conferred an award of Best Exhibitor in Service Sector upon the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited at the 31st Malawi International Trade Fair (MITF) that ended on August 15 in Blantyre.

ESCOM beat other contenders such as Blantyre Water Board and Farmers Commodity Market to lead the sector whose other candidates were from the financial institutions.

Speaking during a networking dinner for the participants held at Mount Soche Hotel, Chief Executive Officer for the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), Chancellor Kaferapanjira said Escom satisfied the criteria that judges had set.

The criteria included originality of products and services, marketing techniques used for products and services as well as presentation of the products and services.

“Besides these factors, we can all agree that generally ESCOM has improved in its service delivery,” Kaferapanjira said to a round of applause from the participants.

ESCOM Chief Executive Officer, Dr Allexon Chiwaya, attributed the achievement to teamwork among members of staff and the support that ESCOM gets from the Board of Directors and the Government.

“We wish to assure our customers and the nation at large that we shall continue to ensure that they have consistent, safe and reliable supply of electricity. This is based on our Road Map and Strategic Plan that we are implementing,” Chiwaya said.
The judges were drawn from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, the University of Malawi and the Malawi Bureau of Standards. Besides scooping the Best Exhibitor Award in the Service Sector, Escom also came as runners up in the Overall Best Exhibitor Award.
